Privacy Policy

Last updated: February 22, 2026

Overview

Clipmunk is a free, open-source desktop application. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data Clipmunk collects, how it is used, and your rights regarding that data.

Data We Collect

Clipmunk collects and processes the following data, all of which stays on your local machine unless you explicitly choose otherwise:

  • Stream URL: The URL you provide to capture your livestream. This is stored locally in your preferences and never sent to our servers.
  • Video buffer: A rolling 40-second video buffer stored as temporary segment files on your computer. These are automatically overwritten and deleted.
  • Clips: Video clips created from the buffer. These are saved to a local folder you choose, or uploaded to your Google Drive if you opt into that feature.
  • Google OAuth tokens: If you connect Google Drive, an OAuth refresh token is stored locally on your machine to maintain the connection. Clipmunk does not store your Google password.
  • Preferences: Your chosen storage mode, clips folder path, and related settings are saved locally.

Third-Party Services

Clipmunk integrates with the following third-party services at your discretion:

  • Google Drive: If you choose to upload clips to Google Drive, Clipmunk uses the Google Drive API to upload files and create shareable links. This is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
  • Cloudflare (cloudflared): Clipmunk uses Cloudflare's free tunnel service to expose a local HTTP endpoint so chat commands can trigger clips. Cloudflare's tunnel assigns a temporary public URL. See Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.
  • Nightbot: If you set up the !clip chat command via Nightbot, Nightbot sends HTTP requests to your tunnel URL. See Nightbot's Privacy Policy.

Data Storage

All data is stored locally on your computer. Clipmunk does not operate any servers or databases. There is no account system, no analytics, no telemetry, and no tracking of any kind. When you uninstall Clipmunk, all local data is removed with it.

Data Sharing

Clipmunk does not sell, rent, or share your personal data with anyone. The only data that leaves your machine is what you explicitly choose to upload (clips to Google Drive) or expose (the tunnel endpoint for chat commands).

Your Rights

Since all data is stored locally, you have full control. You can delete your clips, disconnect Google Drive, reset your preferences, or uninstall the app at any time. No request to us is needed.

Open Source

Clipmunk is open source under the MIT License. You can inspect the full source code on GitHub to verify exactly what the application does with your data.

Changes to This Policy

If we make changes to this privacy policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
